My mom was doing well with treatment, until she caught a cold and got really sick. She also got sores in her mouth and her gums swelled up, which are lovely side effects of chemotherapy. Thankfully she is on the mend just in time for another chemo treatment tomorrow. BUT, each treatment brings her closer to the finish line and after tomorrow she'll have 5 more to go.
We shaved her head last week because her hair was falling out rapidly and she just wanted to get it over with. She actually looks like she's going into the military but don't expect to see it because she has plenty of head scarves to cover up her stubble. Atleast she can sleep-in an extra 20 minutes and not have to worry about doing her hair.
Last week we found out that a good friend of hers from work, who is only 33, also has breast cancer. 33??? I will be there in less than five years and I can't even imagine having to go through that at such a young age. Hopefully after her surgery next week and chemotherapy in the months to come, she will be a survivor.
Last week also brought sadness to all when a good friend/neighbor lost her battle with cancer. She was only 63.
Yep, cancer sucks.
