My mom had her first chemo treatment on Friday and it went well. She hasn't really been too sick but today she's felt a little yucky and tired. Hopefully tomorrow she'll feel well enough to go to work. She has a bunch of anti-nausea medication she's been taking so that has been a big help.
Being there was an experience I probably won't ever forget. The first treatment they let you be in your own little room, but then after that you get to be in the big room with everyone else and their family/friends. It was interesting to look around the room and wonder what the story was of everyone who was there, how long they've had cancer, what kind of cancer they have, how their treatment is going, how their family is handling it and also, I found myself wondering how many would survive this terrible disease. There are so many different kinds of cancer, yet you find yourself being able to sympathize with anyone who has any form it. I know I'm not the one with cancer, but it has affected me in a way I never imagined.
We're still optimistic and can't wait for treatment to be over. I have 8 pink and clear bracelets that my mom bought for me. I started wearing them all on the same wrist, and after each treatment I move one to the other wrist as a count-down to celebrate one step closer to being cancer free.
In other news, Kamryn fell forward off her little rocking chair today and face-planted into the floor. She started screaming right away so Chris picked her up and held her for a minute to calm her down. He pulled her away from him and her face was all bloody, something you never like to see on anyone, especially your child. I ran to get a towel so we could wipe her face and find out where the blood was coming from. After a quick wipe-down we noticed it was coming from inside her mouth so I originally thought she bit through her lip. But, she wouldn't let us come anywhere near her mouth so I couldn't be sure, but I did discover that the bleeding was coming from the top of her mouth. We had to wait until she went to sleep to examine it closer, which didn't happen until a few hours later. Apparently she ripped her Upper Labial Frenum, which is "a little tag of tissue in the center of the upper lip that attaches the lip to the gums." It is not useful for anything and will hopefully heal on its own but it keeps bleeding everytime we try to look at it so it's going to be hard to tell if it's healing because we don't want to make it bleed. I will probably call the dentist tomorrow to see what she says. In the meantime Kamryn looks like she got Baby Botox on her upper lip! Poor thing!

One big step towards the finish line! I'm glad she did okay, and hope that she is still feeling well today.
You're so sweet to be with your mom so much! It's amazing how quickly your own life can be put into perspective when you look at others struggles.
Poor little Kamryn! I hope she keeps recovering too!
I'm glad your mom was feeling okay yesterday, I was going to ask you about that, but forgot.
I was waiting to see a picture of Kamryn's botox job. I love that description, by the way. I guess I'll have to wait and maybe see the damage in person.
Great update on your mom. Hope things continue to go as well as this first round went.
Poor Kamryn, but funny thing . . .Benjamin actually did the same thing. There wasn't anything to do about it except let it heal. The dentist said to watch to make sure none of the top teeth started to darken. It did bleed occasionally for the next few days because it'd get hit by food or something.
And I actually had surgery before I got braces to have my Labial Frenum clipped. It can keep your teeth from naturally coming together. So by clipping it they could put braces on me, pull my teeth all together, and then be optimistic about them staying that way. All in all she maybe saved you some good money that would have been spent pre-braces era. Who knows! But still sad for all the pain.
hey Kamryn preformed money saving surgery and you didn't even know it. I had the have my Upper Labial Frenum sliced from place, trimmed and re-attached (mine grew in two far down my gum line so it was affecting my teeth). I hope she is doing better and your mom as well! (guess I'm not the only one with the medical advice)
