Eight is Great

Saturday was Kenadie's birthday, she turned 8. I seriously cannot believe how fast time goes by. It seems like just yesterday we were watching the Salt Lake City Olympics from our hospital room after she was born.

We started the celebration on Thursday when she took butterfly sugar cookies from Parson's Bakery to school.

Friday was her Valentine's party at school, which I helped with, and then we went to Chris' sister's house that night for the "Buckalew Olympics" to watch opening ceremonies and have a few events of our own. There were 3 events, the Slalom, Curling and Biathlon and medals for each event. I wish I had a picture because guess who won the gold in all three events? ME! Yep, I pretty much rocked it. Kellie (Chris' sister) said she was going to test me for doping. She was kidding of course but I actually wasn't even going to play because Khloe has been sick. Next time we are changing venues and will have the summer "McKay Olympics" at either our house or Chris' brothers. We'll see if I'm as good at the Summer Olympics as I am at the Winter Olympics.

After the Olympic festivities, we got home late and all slept in on Saturday. Kenadie didn't sleep as long as I thought she would though, probably because she was too excited for her birthday. She asked for some new roller skates and we found blue ones, her favorite color. We also got her some boot/slipper type things that she LOVES, a Selena Gomez cd (she's on Disney channel), some fairy books she wanted (she loves to read), a necklace and bracelet for her baptism and Connect 4X4, which is actually a fun game.

At 2pm, we had reservations to take Kenadie's grandmas and aunts to Afternoon Tea at the Grand America in Salt Lake. It was so special to be able to do something like this with Kenadie. She said she felt more grown-up and everything was so fancy she felt like we were eating at a castle.

We had harp music to serenade us.

The food. Notice the little black dots on the plate? That would be caviar, and YES, Kenadie tried it. However, it's only because I didn't tell her what it was.

Dessert was delicious!

The gang frome L to R: Elaine (Chris' mom), Kellie (Chris' sister), Kenadie, me, my mom Becky and Sara (Chris' brother's wife).

After tea, we had Kenadie's friends over for cake and ice cream before swimming at the Rec Center.

This picture reminds me of the phrase "the calm before the storm" because shortly after I took it, some of her friends went NUTS and were bordering on being out of control. I have never heard so much screaming and squealing in my life. Good thing we left for the pool shortly afterwards.

Her cupcake-cake from Parson's Bakery. They seriously have the BEST buttercream frosting and I could eat it every day!

Swimming was a blast and everyone had a lot of fun. But, not everyone was up to getting in a swimsuit, like certain preggo people (Melissa and Jana), Lindsey and of course me since someone had to watch Khloe. But Jen braved the water, along with a few other neighbors that I don't have pictures of. (Sorry!) I guess Lindsey does have an excuse since she had just had a darling baby a week ago. ;) But the rest of us were just wimps!

Kenadie and a few of her friends.

Thanks to everyone who came to Kenadie's birthday, we had so much fun celebrating and sharing her special day with you.
