I like surprises...as long as they are good ones of course. It's actually a little difficult to surprise me because I almost always end up finding out about whatever the surprise may be. (I should have been a private investigator. Seriously, my friends used to call me "Katie P.I." in highschool.)
Today I got a surprise, and it was not a good one. Right after Khloe was born, the back molar on the bottom left side of my jaw started to hurt...A LOT. I could tell the gums around it were swollen because I could not bit down evenly, the left side would touch first and it really hurt. I spent a few nights falling asleep with an ice pack on my cheek and Chris convinced me to call the dentist last week. The soonest they could get me in was today at 2:15. So, I went to my appointment today while Chris watched the girls. I have had a temporary partial filling on the side of this particular tooth since it did bother me a bit when I was pregnant and I had to wait to get it fixed. I thought this was the cause of my recent tooth pain and that the dentist would finish the filling permanently. Well, technically he did finish the filling. But...that part came AFTER he did a root canal. Yep, not a fun surprise at all. I have had only one root canal before and it was probably 7 or 8 years ago by a different dentist.
So here's a question: Since when did the dentist do away with the numbing gel on a q-tip? You know, right before he gives you the numbing shots, he numbs your mouth with that crap that's supposed to be bubble gum or fruit flavored? My dentist forgot that oh-so-important step and went straight for the shots. It hurt. A LOT! I told him I would rather go through labor and have another baby than endure those shots again, that's how bad it hurt! Towards the end of the root canal during the filling part, the numbing started to wear off and I could feel some kind of sharp pressure and pain. Obviously that was not fun either. I finally left the dentist's office around 4:00 (I never thought I would spend over 90 minutes in that stupid chair) and my mouth really started to hurt on the way home. I was almost in tears by the time I got there and put an ice pack on the side of my face. Since the outside of my cheek/jaw was still numb, the ice did nothing for the pain. My OB gave me a prescription for Percocet when I left the hospital in case I needed something for pain and I hadn't filled it yet because I was feeling okay. After seeing how much pain I was in over this stupid root canal, Chris immediately went to Walgreen's to fill my prescription. The problem is, I had to wait an hour for it because they were busy. So, by the time Chris was finally able to get it, I was quietly sobbing. I tried not to cry out loud too much because I didn't want to scare the kids, but I couldn't help it, I was in serious pain! My prescription ended up being the generic for Percocet, but I didn't care, anything was better than how I was feeling. I took two pills and it took the edge off the pain for awhile, but I was not pain free. I was also instructed by the dentist (we called after I got home) to alternate the Percocet with Ibuprofin, which I have been doing. As of right now, I'm feeling much less pain, there's still a little but it's tolerable. I'm pretty loopy and out of it, I'm actually surprised I am able to see the computer screen enough to write this blog post. I tried to watch a tv show earlier and fell asleep while I was scratching my face. I woke up, probably only a few seconds later, and found that my hand was still on my face.
Now I'm off to bed. Here's hoping Khloe will sleep good tonight! And if there are any errors in my post, you'll just have to deal with it because my eyes can no longer focus on the screen!

I am so sorry to hear about your tooth! That is no fun! Isn't it crazy how much pain one little tooth can cause!?!? I hope you get feeling better fast!!
Feel better. And I hope you learned an important lesson that I learned years ago - DON'T GO TO WALGREENS!
You poor thing! I hate tooth pain... it's the worst! I hope that today you're feeling better and are able to focus a little bit!:)
I hope that you are not going to that dentist again. I hope you are feeling better and that Khloe slept will for you.
Man, that doesn't sound like fun AT ALL! I am sorry you had to go through that yesterday. I hope you are feeling better today and your drugs are doing their job! :-)
Awful! I am so sorry! That same thing happened when Ike had his gum surgery a few months ago....Walgreens took over an hour and I came back to him in tears!!!
Hope you feel better today! That sounds miserable!!
