My Poor Mom

This morning at about 9:45 I happened to call my mom at work and one of her coworkers answered her line. They told me she was unavailable because she thought she had broken her wrist and was being taken to the ER.
Rewind: Since both my mom and dad work in Salt Lake, they carpool to work each morning. On a normal day my mom has the car but today my dad needed it so he dropped her off at 6am. Around 9:30, my mom and a coworker decided to walk across the street to McDonald's to get some hot chocolate. They were walking through the parking lot at McDonald's, through a handicap stall when my mom slipped on some ice and fell. Immediately her wrist hurt and a nice young man who witnessed it came over to her. He helped her up and went into McDonald's to tell the manager that a woman had fallen in his parking lot and he needed to get someone out there to clear the ice. After sitting in McDonald's to regroup for a few minutes, the coworker took my mom to the ER since she didn't have a car. It's not like my mom to ask to go to the hospital so I knew that it must hurt really bad.
Fastforward: I called my mom on her cell and told her I had gotten a babysitter for Kamryn (thank you Melissa!) and that I was coming out to be with her since my dad couldn't get away from work at the time. When I got there, I saw this:

That big bump on the thumb-side of her wrist is her bones all crushed together from her fall. As soon as I saw it I knew it was broken and I see why she wanted to go to the ER. She has a temporary cast and can't get a hard one until she goes to see the Orthopedist next week. My poor mom has had so many surgeries and physical issues and I feel really bad for her. She was in a lot of pain today and they couldn't give her anything until they figured out what was wrong. (Stupid, sloooow emergency rooms!) Hopefully she won't have to have surgery on it, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. In the mean time, I think I'll be doing a lot of Christmas wrapping for her since she hasn't even started!
On a side note, this is the fault of McDonald's for not making sure their parking lot, especially a handicap stall, was clear of ice and they should be paying the bill! The manager took my mom's name and number and said that someone would call her, apparently they have certain people who handle situations like these. The nice man who helped her even gave her his business card because he said he would be a witness for her.

Ouch, indeed! Your poor mom! :( I hope she's able to avoid surgery and that the bones will heal properly . . .
Stupid McDonalds parking lot not clearing their ice! *grumbles*
